Is becoming a pilot worth it as a career?

For many people, yes. A professional path costs roughly $80,000 to $125,000 and takes 2 to 4 years, but major-airline captains can earn $200,000 to $500,000 a year, so the long-term return is strong. It is worth it if you genuinely want flying as a full-time job, not as an investment alone.

How much do airline pilots make?

Regional first officers typically start around $90,000 to $100,000 with current bonuses, and senior captains at major airlines can earn $300,000 to over $500,000 a year. Pay rises steeply with seniority and the size of the aircraft you fly.

Can flying stay just a hobby?

Absolutely. A Private Pilot Certificate costs about $15,000 to $25,000 and lets you fly for fun, travel, and personal trips for the rest of your life. Most pilots fly purely as a hobby and never pursue a commercial certificate or an aviation career.
